Cpl. Ron Clark Cpl. Ron Clark was trying to stop a vehicle on August 16, 2006. He turned on the police motorcycle’s emergency lights and sired and tried to reach the driver, who was up to 90 miles an hour. As Cpl. Clark closed in, he saw the driver make eye contact in the rearview mirror, then the driver slammed on his brakes, laying 188 feet of skid marks. Cpl. Clark had to do emergency braking of the motorcycle and lay it down. The violator took off from the scene. Cpl. Clark had extensive bruising, abrasion and lacerations from the hitting and skidding on the pavement. Cpl. Clark credits his ballistic body armor and motorcycle helmet for saving his life. The International Association of Chiefs of Police and DuPont recognize him for “dressing for survival.”
