The Community Education Unit is divided into Crime Prevention and Explorers. The Crime Prevention Section seeks to provide interaction between the Tulsa Police Department and the community to assist the citizens in the reduction of crime. This section also seeks to impart information about relevant issues facing our community such as crime prevention, drug abuse, and gang resistance. These tasks are accomplished through lectures, teaching in the Tulsa Public Schools, holding symposiums, and attending public meetings.
The second facet of the Community Education Unit deals with the sponsoring and mentoring activities associated with an Explorer Post. The interest in Exploring is so popular that the Tulsa Police Department actually sponsors three individual Explorer Posts. The Explorers attend annual conferences and competitions oftentimes winning awards for their problem solving abilities and other policing skills
