| One of the most popular special units in the Police Department, the Mounted Patrol Unit is highly visible and extremely effective in a variety of enforcement and public relations assignments. |
The Unit frequently rides in high crime areas and effectively suppresses trouble while winning many friends, mostly children, who relate to the horses in a very positive way. The Unit consists of two supervisors, three officers and a certified journeyman farrier who cares for eight specially trained horses. The horses are highly trained in all types of crowd control and all riders are certified by the National Mounted Patrol Service. |
| Members of the Unit ride routine patrol in all areas of the city. They regularly provide crowd control for special events such as Tulsa's Mayfest and other downtown community events, as well as patrolling shopping centers during the holiday seasons. |
