Reserve Officer Glenn Truman Wortham

wortham.jpgDied of a heart attack in July 1973  after a prolonged and exhausting battle with a suspect.

Officers had gone to a drive-in to investigate a fight in which a bystander had been stabbed in the hip. When they approached the suspect, he scuffled with officers and ran.
During an extended struggle, Wortham was kicked in the chest, suffered a heart attack and died.
The suspect was charged with murder, but the charge was later dropped after a judge ruled that "no direct causal relationship existed" between the fight and the auxiliary officer's heart attack.
