Tulsa Police Department Receives State Grant

ARCHIVED PRESS RELEASE: Published 9-3-2013

The Tulsa Police Department, along with the Oklahoma City Police Department, the Ada Police Department, the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office and the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office received this award. The Tulsa Police Department was awarded a total of $625,000 dollars.  The purpose of the grant is to target and reduce violent crime in our Oklahoma communities. The Tulsa Police Department has identified several items that we believe will assist us in meeting this goal.

A portion of the grant funds will allow the department to increase staffing on an overtime basis to directly patrol gang hot spots in an attempt to reduce incidents of violence. The grant will allow the department to focus aggressively on crime types such as: Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Domestic Violence and Sex Offenders. It will also allow us to purchase new equipment that would further our ability to conduct investigations on criminals and their activities. We believe this grant will help the department reach our goal of reducing violent crime in Tulsa and making Tulsa one of the safest communities in Oklahoma.

Chief Chuck Jordan said, "We are very appreciative that Attorney General Pruitt included the Tulsa Police Department in this endeavor.
