TPD Awarded 4th CALEA Re-accreditation

ARCHIVED PRESS RELEASE: Published 11-29-2017

In August, two CALEA assessors conducted an on-site assessment of the Tulsa Police Department. The assessors spent 4 days on-site and 2 weeks prior to their arrival reviewing all accreditation files, inspection of equipment and operations. The assessment team also participated in patrol ride-alongs and interviews with individual officers and command staff. A public hearing and call in session was held to take in-person comments from the community. The purpose of the assessment was to determine whether the police department maintained compliance with the nearly 500 applicable CALEA law enforcement standards throughout the previous three year period.

The Tulsa Police Department was formally awarded its re-accredited status at the National CALEA Conference on November 18th in Jacksonville, FL.  The department has been accredited since 2005. The City of Tulsa's 911 Communications Center received CALEA accreditation in April of 2016.

CALEA was created by the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the National Sheriffs Association, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Police Executive Research Forum.

Chief Jordan said "the CALEA re-accreditation assures the community that we are accountable to the highest standards possible in our profession"
