UNITED STATES MARINES, (Broken Arrow, OK):  Funeral services for Corporal Jared M. Shoemaker, 29, of Tulsa, OK are scheduled to take place on Friday, September 15, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. located at First United Methodist Church in Tulsa, OK. Following the service, full military honors will be rendered at Floral Haven Cemetery in Broken Arrow, OK. Corporal Shoemaker was killed in action on September 4, 2006 in the Al Anbar Province, Iraq while conducting combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Corporal Shoemaker was assigned to Weapons Company, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (IMEF).

Corporal Shoemaker was mobilized from a reserve to active duty status in December of 2005 from the Anti-Tank Training Company in Broken Arrow, OK.  While in a reserve status, Corporal Shoemaker proudly served the city of Tulsa as a Tulsa Police Officer.

Circumstances: Corporal Shoemaker was traveling in a mounted patrol when the vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device (IED).  The team was conducting combat operations against anti-Iraqi forces in Fallujah, Al Anbar Province of Iraq.  Two Marines and one corpsman died in the incident: Corporal Jared M. Shoemaker of Tulsa, OK, Lance Corporal Eric Valdepenas of Seekonk, MA, and Naval Corpsman Christopher G. Walsh of Overland, KS.  As a result of the explosion, an additional Marine, Lance Corporal Cody W. Hill of Ada, OK sustained serious burns and fragmentation injuries.      

Cpl Shoemaker's unit arrived in Fallujah in late March and was scheduled to return in late October of this year.

Cpl Shoemaker is survived by Kari Shoemaker (Wife), Kenneth Shoemaker (Father), Linda Shoemaker (Mother), Steve Shoemaker (Brother), and Ben Shoemaker (Brother)
