Celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

This week, April 14th-20th, is National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.

The week honors telecommunicators personnel in the public safety community and shows recognition for their dedication to serving the public.

Nationwide, public safety telecommunicators receive 240 million 911 calls each year. In 2023, our Public Safety Center received nearly 1.1 million calls just in the Tulsa area.

To help celebrate our dispatchers, Chief Wendell Franklin surprised the team with mini bundt cakes.

On Thursday, four new City of Tulsa 911 Dispatchers graduated from the academy.

They spent the past six weeks going through an extensive academy, learning everything form Tulsa geography to call types, interviewing skills, and 10-codes.

The new dispatchers will spend the next several weeks working one-on-one with a trainer for on-the-job training!
