Welcome to the Tulsa Police Department's monthly newsletter. It's feeling Spring-like even if we're only just now entering March! Let's take a look at some highlights from the month of February:

New Family Safety Center

This month, we celebrated the ribbon-cutting for the brand-new Case Family Safety Center, located at 2829 S. Sheridan Rd.

Chief Larsen was among those in attendance at the ceremony, which featured speakers including Mayor Monroe Nichols and Attorney General Gentner Drummond.

Polar Plunge

Earlier this month, Tulsa Police Officers took the plunge to show their support for more than 12,500 Special Olympics Oklahoma participants!

The Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police was the top fundraising team with $5,380 raised. Tulsa Police Academy Class 132 also raised $2,650.

A total of $26,700 was raised in support of Special Olympics Oklahoma. Thank you to everyone who participated, donated, and supported this great event!

Women in Policing

We had a great turnout at our Women in Policing event this month!

Several women with an interest in law enforcement came out for presentations on our Specialty Units, and to experience what it takes to be a Tulsa Police Officer!

Serve for Safety

We had a blast playing for a great cause at the Tulsa Police Foundation’s Serve For Safety pickleball tournament this month!

Officers picked up some paddles and teamed up to play against each other, and to face off against friends from the community. Meanwhile, players and supporters got to take part in a silent auction and raffle for prizes.

Gilcrease Division

In February, leadership from the Gilcrease Division was invited to meet with a team of AmeriCorps volunteers, eager to connect with the Department while they temporarily live and work in Tulsa.

The Team is assisting Tulsa Responds with their free tax filing services until April. Everyone met at Pancho Anaya in the Kendall-Whittier District for coffee and a chat, talking about Tulsa, where everyone was from, and how we do things at the Tulsa Police Department. This casual meeting sparked lively conversation and thought-provoking questions from young people experiencing Tulsa for the first time.

It was a great opportunity for the Department to leave a positive, lasting impression. The group enjoyed the visit so much that the conversation evolved into other experiences they could have with TPD.

Mingo Valley Division

We kicked off the month by joining our fellow law enforcement partners from across the Tulsa Metro area at Mission BBQ for Cocoa with Cops. Officers had the opportunity to share warm drinks, a delicious meal, and meaningful conversations with community members.

To close out the month, our Officers made their annual visit to Asbury Church. This visit is always a highlight! Officers spent time meeting and greeting preschoolers, talking about the importance of safety, learning about stranger danger, and how to call 911 in an emergency. The smiles were contagious, and the Officers were showered with handmade cards, hugs, and plenty of high-fives. It’s never too early to build trust and teach important safety lessons in a way that is positive and empowering. We’re looking forward to continuing that momentum into March with even more community involvement.

Mark your calendars! Coming up in April we have the Heroes & Families Safety Day Event, held in partnership with the Autism Foundation of Oklahoma and Family & Children's Services. This unique event features a mock “safe stop” experience designed to educate differently abled individuals about what happens during a traffic stop. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on, mock traffic stops in a supportive environment, helping build understanding, reduce anxiety, and strengthen positive interactions with law enforcement. Participants will have the opportunity to learn more and sign up for the Blue Envelope Program.

Riverside Division

Earlier this month, Officers from the Tulsa Police Department’s Riverside Division were invited to come and talk with the Early Learning Program at South Tulsa Baptist Church as a part of their Community Helper Education. To wrap up their month, Officers took a similar visit to the eager students of Carnegie Elementary.

Officers fielded questions from the kids about the daily duties of a Police Officer, and talked about some of the equipment they use along the way. Then the kids had an opportunity to see some of that equipment, including Police cars.

We're grateful for invitations like these that allow us to continue connecting with the next generations of Tulsans!

Arrest made in 2010 Cold Case

On Feb. 12, 2026, the Tulsa Police Fugitive Warrants Unit located and arrested Wilbert Tyrone Moore Jr. for the 2010 murder of Kenneth Maywald.

Background:

On November 18th, 2010, Tulsa Police Officers responded to a Shooting at an apartment near Virgin and N. Norwood Pl. They arrived to find 57-year-old Kenneth Maywald with a gunshot wound to the chest. He later died at the hospital.

Homicide Detectives identified Moore as a person of interest, but lacked evidence to make an arrest. Detectives kept working the case in the hope that someone would come forward, and finally, a previous witness provided the evidence needed to issue a warrant for Moore.

The Fugitive Warrants Unit tracked down Moore and arrested him.

Moore was booked into the Tulsa County Jail for First-Degree Murder.
