Welcome to the Tulsa Police Department's monthly newsletter. We're on the other side of some frigid weather and already heading into the second month of 2026! Let's take a look at our start to the year as we push ahead to February:

2026 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade

This month, we were proud to take part in Tulsa's 47th annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Parade. This year's theme: “New Day. Same Dream.”

Chief Dennis Larsen, along with other members of our command staff, joined firefighters from the Tulsa Fire Department and volunteers from the City of Tulsa Gov in walking the parade route through the historic Greenwood District. Despite the sub-freezing temperatures, several community members showed up to be part of it, and we were thrilled to be part of this awesome event.

Law Enforcement Torch Run 2026 Kickoff

Earlier this month, members of the Tulsa Police Department attended the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) Luncheon for Special Olympics Oklahoma at Tulsa Tech - Lemley Memorial Campus.

The LETR benefits Special Olympics Oklahoma. The Torch Run is an actual running event in which Officers and athletes run with the "Flame of Hope" to the Opening Ceremonies of local, state, and national Special Olympics games! The luncheon celebrates the success of previous years and gears up for the next year of fundraising!

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

On January 9, we celebrated National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, and our day was filled with goodies, hugs, and lots of smiles!

We wanted to give a special thanks to some of our friends at MidFirst Bank, Avante Garde Pre School, and Target who spoiled our Officers with snacks, smiles and support.

January saw a variety of unique opportunities for our Officers, including those in our specialty units, to educate and connect with our community.

This month, the SPIDER Unit visited several local schools where Detective Williams spoke with students about internet safety, including the risks of sharing sensitive messages and photos, online bullying, how to report internet crimes, and ways to preserve evidence.

The Financial Crimes Unit visited Montereau Retirement Community to present on financial safety and senior services, discussing common scams such as romance scams, grandparent scams, and financial abuse by caretakers, while sharing practical tips to help seniors stay financially secure during their retirement years.

Patrol Officers also got in on the action. Officers from the Gilcrease Division attended a City of Tulsa Employee Appreciation Game Day, hosted by the University of Tulsa. Multiple City departments were there to visit with guests and hand out a variety of swag to City employees and other attendees.

Later in the month, Gilcrease Officers attended the City of Tulsa Birthday Party, organized by the City’s Spirit Committee. Hundreds of City Employees attended and got a chance to visit with Officers and get some cool Tulsa Police Swag.

We're looking forward to a handful of community engagements coming up in February! See you there!
