May 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to the Tulsa Police Department's monthly newsletter! Things are heating up headed into June with a ton of great community events on the way. Let's take a look at the last month as we build toward the summer months.

Rotary Club Officer of the Year Award

Please join us in congratulating Lt. Amber McCarty, the recipient of the Rotary Club of Tulsa's 2025 Tulsa Police Officer of the Year Award!

Firefighter Captain Chisom Frazier was chosen as the Tulsa Firefighter of the Year for the Tulsa Fire Department.

Lt. McCarty joined the department more than 17 years ago. She currently leads the Mental Health Unit, which works hand-in-hand with the Community Response Team to combine law enforcement with mental health professionals to ensure the best possible outcomes for those in need. She also works with the Officer Wellness Unit and Peer-to-Peer Program, providing valuable resources to Officers.

Community Conversations

Mayor Monroe Nichols and other city leaders wrapped up the last of the scheduled Community Conversations in May.

Several members of Tulsa Police leadership came out and got to have some meaningful interactions with the people they serve every day. We look forward to building on those conversations to better serve the City of Tulsa.

2025 Cop Land Classic Bike Ride

We were proud to take part in the 2025 Cop Land Classic Bike Ride, beginning and ending at the Tulsa Police Training Division.

Hosted by the Tulsa Police Officers' Memorial, the Cop Land Classic Bike Ride is the Memorial's largest fundraiser and happens each year on the 3rd Saturday of May. We saw a HUGE turnout, with hundreds of cyclists showing up to take part.

National Police Week 2025

This month, Chief Dennis Larsen, Command Staff, several Officers, and members of the Tulsa Police Honor Guard traveled to Washington, D.C., representing the department at National Police Week 2025.

National Police Week honors and remembers fallen Officers across the country. The events allow law enforcement, families, survivors, and citizens to gather and pay homage to those who gave their lives in the line of duty.

Annual Tulsa Police Officers' Memorial Service

This month, many attended a formal memorial service to recognize and honor the lives of the Tulsa Police Officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty since 1917.

Mayor Monroe Nichols and Chief Dennis Larsen spoke at the memorial service which included a candlelight vigil inside the Tulsa Police Training Division.

Law Enforcement Torch Run

This month, we were proud to take part in the final leg of the 2025 Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) as part of the start of the Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer Games!

Officers from the Tulsa Police Department, the current Rookies in the Academy, along with Officers from the Broken Arrow Police Department and Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department kicked off the final leg at Newblock Park, just west of downtown Tulsa.

Officers followed their support up by spending time in Stillwater to help with the Summer Games and help bring home a few medals.

Oklahoma SWAT Competition

Earlier this month, the Tulsa Police Special Operations Team hosted the 18th Annual Oklahoma SWAT Competition at the Tulsa Police Training Division.

Stillwater Police Department was the competition's overall winner, with Broken Arrow Police Department coming in second. In total, 10 teams competed in the events.

The Tulsa Police Department won the event last year, so we did not compete this year -- but we're certainly glad we got the opportunity to host some of our law enforcement partners from across Oklahoma!

Gilcrease Division

The Gilcrease Division participated in a wide variety of events during the month of May. We visited the pre-k class at Happy Hearts Academy to talk about police work and show off some of the unique tools Officers get to use in their jobs, like patrol cars and K-9 companions.

Officers attended a block party in Tracy Park, Coffee with a Cop downtown, and met with the community advisory board of the North Tulsa Health Department to talk about community policing, mental health, and safety.

We rounded out the month at the Mayor’s last “Community Conversations” town hall, held at Crossover Academy, where we had the opportunity to engage with dozens of citizens and take their questions and concerns.

June is shaping up to be very busy - one of our biggest events of the year, the Hasty Bake GrillFest, is happening June 7 at the University of Tulsa campus. We will have a large presence to engage with the 1,500+ expected attendees so feel free to stop by and see us!

Mingo Valley Division

May was a month full of connection, culture, and community for the Mingo Valley Division!

We kicked things off in style at the Woodland Hills Mall Mother’s Day Fashion Show, helping celebrate the moms in our community with flair. From there, our officers dusted off their boots and saddled up for Cowboys, Cops, and Kids an exceptional rodeo hosted by BAPD, dedicated to our incredible special needs community. We kept the momentum going with another round of Coloring With A Cop, thanks to our partnership with McDonald’s.

Mid-month, we had the opportunity to dive into the rich sights, sounds, and flavors of the Asian American Night Market. We enjoyed cultural performances, sampled amazing food, and appreciated the chance to connect with such a vibrant community. We closed the month with our community partner Joy In The Cause as they received a generous donation from Christian Brothers Automotive. Their continued efforts, especially providing our officers with comforting backpacks and stuffed dogs for kids in crisis make a real difference.

Here’s to a meaningful May and more moments like these in the months to come!

Riverside Division

May was a busy month across the Department, including the Riverside Division.

Earlier this month, Riverside Officers got the chance to take part in a Spring Carnival hosted by Tulsa Parks. Officers passed out some TPD swag, interact with local children and answer questions about the Department.

Officers also took part in the National EMS Week celebration at the Discovery Lab with the Tulsa Fire Department and EMSA, letting kids check out patrol cars and try on some police gear.

In June, the Riverside Division is set to participate in Summer Camp at the Tulsa Dream Center.

Tulsa Police K9 Unit Spotlight

Suspects on the run in Tulsa hate to see these K9s coming! But there's a lot more to the Tulsa Police K-9 Unit than just catching suspects.

Established in 1962, the unit started with two Officers. Today, the unit has 11 dual-purpose K9s that are patrol and narcotics certified. The unit also has 11 Officers, a Lieutenant, and a Sergeant overseeing operations.

From building searches, area searches, tracking, narcotics detection, and more -- the K9s are an integral part of our department.

Here's an introduction to the unit, where you'll meet some of our K9s, including Taz and Jugger -- and learn about our role in the 2025 National Detector Dog Trials!

Great Tulsa PD newsletter! Lt. McCarty's award is well-deserved. The community conversations sound productive. Taking part in the Cop Land Classic Bike Ride and National Police Week shows dedication. Glad to see the department engaging with youth through events like the Spring Carnival and Happy Hearts Academy visit. Sounds like everyone's having a blast! Makes me want to chill out after work with a game of Snow Rider 3D.

I didn't expect a game with simple graphics like basket random to bring so much laughter. Characters tumble, balloons fly around, everything is chaotic in a humorous way.

After a long work week, I needed a break, and Defence colony Escorts provided just that. Her charm, warmth, and class created the perfect atmosphere. Not your average encounter—definitely a premium, unforgettable experience that left me wanting more.
