The Tulsa Police Homicide Unit is investigating a triple shooting that left one man dead and two people injured on Monday night outside a QuikTrip location.
Tulsa Police Officers responded to the QuikTrip at 15th and Denver for a call about a Disturbance with a Weapon around 8:30 p.m. When officers arrived on the scene, they found three shooting victims.
Through the investigation, officers determined that 33-year-old Ryan Mitchell first arrived at the QuikTrip in a red Mercedes with his girlfriend. The couple had been arguing before arriving and continued to argue in the parking lot.
During the argument between Mitchell and his girlfriend, an unrelated group of individuals got involved, escalating the situation. A witness then flagged down the security officer from the store.
The security officer spoke to Mitchell for a while and attempted to de-escalate the situation after Mitchell pulled out a handgun. An off-duty security officer, who happened to be in the store making a purchase, witnessed Mitchell pull out a gun while speaking with the on-duty security officer.
The off-duty security officer and Mitchell got into an altercation in the parking lot. Mitchell fired several shots, hitting the off-duty security officer, who also returned gunfire on Mitchell.
The on-duty security officer also fired shots at Mitchell, hitting him.
Mitchell was taken to the hospital, where he died a short time later.
The injured off-duty security officer was taken to the hospital and last listed as stable. During the gunfight, a woman across the street was hit in the stomach by a stray bullet from the gunfire exchange. She was taken to the hospital and also listed as stable.
Due to the complexity of this case, all the evidentiary details and investigative findings will be submitted to the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s Office will thoroughly review the details and determine if charges are warranted.
