The Tulsa Police Department unveiled its renewed Mounted Patrol Unit on Wednesday at Guthrie Green in downtown Tulsa.

Officers Tollefson, West, and Howse were there with their horses, Rosie, Wrecker, and Horsey, to meet the public and give everyone a chance to come over and say hello during Food Truck Wednesday.

The department is bringing back the Mounted Patrol Unit for the first time in 15 years to meet the unique needs of downtown, increase engagement opportunities, and be more accessible to the public. These horses are privately owned by the individual Officers and will be used during special events in the downtown area.

The Officers and horses have undergone months of extensive training, generously provided by the Tulsa Police Foundation. The department still has a few more horses finishing up their training, and then they will join the rest of the unit.
