The Tulsa Police Department took part in the final leg of the 2025 Statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) on Wednesday morning as part of the start of the Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer Games.
Officers from the Tulsa Police Department, the current Rookies in the Academy, along with Officers from the Broken Arrow Police Department and Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department kicked off the final leg at Newblock Park, just west of downtown Tulsa.
They carried the torch along Charles Page Boulevard to 81st W. Ave., where they passed the torch off to Sand Springs Police Department to continue on towards Stillwater. Athletes from Special Olympics Oklahoma also took part.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is the movement’s largest grass-roots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle. At its most basic level, the Torch Run is an actual running event in which officers and athletes run the “Flame of Hope” to the Opening Ceremonies of local Special Olympics competitions, state, provincial Games, and National, Summer and Winter Games.
The LETR was started in Oklahoma in 1986, and there are currently more than 185 participating agencies statewide.
