Remembering Derrick Alexander
Earlier this month, we celebrated the life of Officer Derrick Alexander, who dedicated 33 years of his life to the Tulsa Police Department and the community he served.
Family, friends, and colleagues gathered to tell stories and remember the life Derrick led. Thank you to everyone who shared the impact he had on their lives, big and small.
Foresight Maximus Award winners
The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors awarded the Tulsa Police Forensic Laboratory the Foresight Maximus Award for FY2025.
The award is presented every year to the 15 top-performing laboratories at 90% or better of peak efficiency. Out of 184 participating labs worldwide, we earned our spot among the elite for the eighth time in the last nine years.
Police Cadet Awards
This month, our team of Tulsa Police Cadets and their mentors held a celebration for their year of achievements, hard work, and public service.
We’re thankful for their dedication and look forward to their continued success!
Cry Baby Climb
To kick off Tulsa Tough earlier this month, our Officers fought valiantly to remain “Kings of the Climb,” but fell just short of a repeat performance.
In the end, we reluctantly handed over the crown to the firefighters, who received a $1,000 charitable donation.
Gilcrease Division
Route 66 celebrations took over the city over the last couple of months, and the Tulsa Police Department wanted to get in on the action. One highlight this month for Officers from the Gilcrease Division and Bike River Patrol was being invited to an event in the Tulsa Market District, where they rode their interactive musical bikes to engage with the community.
The Market District Association acquired the installation from an artist group in Montreal, Canada, bringing the bikes to Tulsa from April to July. Each bike is responsible for one element of a song: vocals, drums, bass, and guitar, and the sounds play when the bikes are pedaled. They also live-track the miles cycled in real time.
Unfortunately, Patrol Officers weren’t able to make it, but we knew the BRP Unit would have no trouble putting in some miles. Despite the heat, they covered 30 miles in just an hour and a half, with help from kids and families passing by.
This was a fun and unique experience to be part of. The bikes will be here until July 5 if you want to stop by and help the Market District Association try to reach Santa Monica before the installation is returned to Montreal.
Mingo Valley Division
We kicked off the month by participating in the Family Summer Spectacular at Garnett Road Baptist Church. The church invited our Officers to attend this year's event to provide summer safety tips, answer questions, and strengthen connections with community members. It was a meaningful opportunity to foster trust while promoting a safe and enjoyable summer for families.
Throughout the month, our Officers also visited several summer camps for Touch-a-Truck events and community outreach. We enjoyed spending time with the young members of our community at several KinderCare locations, Union Public Schools' Extender Summer Camp, and Imagine Early Education. These visits gave children the chance to explore police vehicles, meet officers, and learn about safety in a fun and engaging environment.
We wrapped up the month by participating in the Annual Summer Safety Resource Fair, where members of the Hispanic community gathered to receive valuable information and resources from numerous community partners. The event highlighted the importance of collaboration and ensured that families had access to information to help keep them safe throughout the year.
You can catch MVD Officers once again leading the Fourth of July Parade through the Briarwood Park neighborhood as we celebrate and continue strengthening the relationships that make our community special.
Riverside Division
Officers at the Riverside Division had a busy month and reaped the benefits of some great community events!
Earlier this month, they got to participate in Saint Francis Health System's Health Zones Summer Camp! Our Officers had the opportunity to meet with campers and talk about what it takes to become a Tulsa Police Officer.
Another event took Officers to KinderCare, where they got to show some more youngsters their patrol vehicles and gear.
We're thankful for another fruitful month of community connections!
Department Highlight: Impact Unit
Since 2014, the AM and PM Impact units have been working to make a difference in the downtown Tulsa area by engaging with the community, helping those experiencing homelessness, and keeping the city’s nightlife safe.
These Officers aim to take pressure off the Patrol Officers working in the IDL area, picking up the call load and helping to prevent crime.
With a variety of skills, assets, and experience, these Officers are here to help maintain the spirit of downtown.
