Welcome to the Tulsa Police Department's monthly newsletter! Things are cooling off, but we're as busy as ever! Let's take a look at some highlights from September.

Law Enforcement Appreciation Day

Several of our Officers were recognized this month at the Council for Safe Neighbors annual Law Enforcement Appreciation Day!

The Council recognized four Officers from the Mingo Valley Division: Officer Fulton, Officer Waller, Officer Baul, and Lieutenant Madden. The Officers received awards for going above and beyond their daily duties -- showing hard work, dedication, and commitment to service and community.

Celebrating 918 Day

Our Officers had a great time this month stopping by 918 Day on Greenwood and Fulton Street Books on Sept. 18! Later that evening, some of our Officers and Command Staff joined Mayor Monroe Nichols at the 918 Day Festival at Chapman Park!

We're glad we got to take part in several of the events, and thanks to all of those who helped us celebrate the 918!

National Police Woman Day

This month, we took a moment to recognize National Police Woman Day and celebrate the women of the Tulsa Police Department.

Celebrated annually on September 12th, the day honors all women working in law enforcement and their contributions to maintaining public safety in their communities. We're certainly proud of the women who serve and support Tulsa Police!

La Fiesta de Tulsa 2025

This month, Tulsa Police Officers and their families, along with some of our City Councilors, Tulsa Fire Department, and many others, proudly joined Tulsa Global District for their very first La Fiesta de Tulsa Parade!

A big thanks to Tulsa Global District for putting on a great event for our community and celebrating Hispanic culture.

Upcoming: Community Conversations

The City of Tulsa's latest slate of Community Conversations is scheduled for several dates in October, beginning with a conversation on public safety, alternative response, and mental health on Oct. 1 at OU-Tulsa's Founders Hall from 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m.

We hope to see you there or any of the other upcoming events!

Gilcrease Division

September brought in a much-needed break from the summer heat and a slower pace after a busy back-to-school season.

One highlight of the month for the Gilcrease Division was 918 Day. In an effort to strengthen our relationship with the Downtown Tulsa Partnership and emphasize our efforts within the IDL, we came out with, arguably, GID’s largest presence at an event since the inception of the new CORE Unit.

With more than two dozen Officers and TPD representatives from the Chief’s Office, Gilcrease Division, Impact Unit, Bike Patrol, and Mental Health Unit, we had a diverse group across a variety of ranks to engage with the estimated 1,500 people who attended. October is another busy month for us as we get ready for the many Halloween events coming up.

Mingo Valley Division

September was a busy and exciting month for us as school got back in full swing! We had the chance to visit many schools, talk with students about safety, explain how and when to call 911, and even show off our uniforms and patrol cars.

One highlight included our partnership with Union Public Schools PTA for their annual Movie on the Lawn. This year’s film was Cars, so of course, we brought along patrol vehicles for families to tour! The big surprise hit of the night? The shield — which even stole the spotlight from the bright red fire truck!

We wrapped up the month at the Safe Neighbors Council Community Fair at Hannah Hall, where we shared resources and spent time with our Hispanic community.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to be part of Faith & Blue on October 11, hosted by God’s Shining Light across from MVD. This year, all three divisions are coming together for one unified celebration. Plus, October means plenty of trunk-or-treats -- we can’t wait to see you there!

Riverside Division

This month, the Riverside Division had the opportunity to visit with some local kids to teach them a little bit about being a Police Officer.

One highlight was a visit Officers took to the Marquette Early Childhood Development Center. Officers talked about safety, emergencies, and when to call 911! Students also got to check out the uniforms and patrol vehicles our Officers use every day.

We're looking forward to the incoming fall weather and some great Halloween-themed events coming up in October!

Officer puts out truck fire along highway

On September 11, around 8:10 am, Officer Rowe was on patrol when he was alerted to a pickup truck that was on fire on the highway.

Apparently, a fire had started in the bed of the truck, causing flames and smoke to fill the bed. The driver, who had two infants in the truck with him, quickly pulled over, taking the children to safety.

Taking this monumental opportunity to beat our partners with the Tulsa Fire Department, Rowe got his department-issued fire extinguisher and went to work.

Using every last bit in the extinguisher, Officer Rowe was able to put the flames out. Tulsa Fire arrived on scene and completely drowned out whatever heat was left in the bed.

A motorcyclist who was behind the truck stopped to help and coordinated with Officer Rowe to get some gear out of the truck for the father of the infants.

Big shout-out to the citizen and Officer Rowe for taking care of our community!
