October 2026
Welcome to the Tulsa Police Department's monthly newsletter.
Class 133 Graduation
Class 2026-133 graduated from the Tulsa Police Academy on Friday.
After six months of training, they'll now join our Field Training Officers for the next phase of their journey to becoming Tulsa Police Officers.

Officer of the Year
Child Crisis Unit Det. Paula Maker accepted her award this month from the Attorney General as the 2026 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year!
Thank you for your continued service to our city, Det. Maker!

Faith & Blue
Earlier this month, we had a blast participating in Faith & Blue at First Baptist Church North Tulsa.
Chief Brooks, several members of the command staff, and representatives from multiple specialty units came out and helped make that day continue to be one of the highlights of October every year.

BooHaha Parade
Earlier this month, our Officers were honored to be the first to see the hundreds of incredible costumes lining Brookside this morning for BooHaHa!
It served as the perfect primer for the back end of the month that was filled with candy, costumes, and great conversations.

Gilcrease Division
October was a whirlwind month for us, with multiple trunk or treats, fall festivals, and Red Ribbon Week school visits all across the city.
One highlight for the Gilcrease Division was the 25th birthday celebration at the Tulsa Dream Center. This event drew a huge crowd and included a wide variety of activities and resources from our community partners.
The TPD table stayed busy as Officers handed out candy and trick-or-treat bags to dozens of kids and their families. We received a very warm welcome from everyone in attendance and enjoyed engaging with so many community members.

Mingo Valley Division
As Halloween approached, our Officers attended several Trunk-or-Treat events throughout the community, including Pumpkin Palooza at Eastside Rise, Hardesty Library’s Annual Trunk-or-Treat, and Sparky’s Spooktacular at McClure Park. Our officers handed out pounds and pounds of candy and stickers, shared smiles, posed for pictures, and made lasting memories with community members.
This month we also celebrated Community Helpers Week! Officers from Patrol, K-9 Unit, and Motors Unit visited Parkview Preschool for its Touch-a-Truck event. We also stopped by Boevers Elementary for its Community Helpers Fair, where students could meet Officers and learn about their roles and uniforms. October also gave our community opportunities to show appreciation for those who serve.
During First Responders Week, Hillcrest South hosted a special cookout for our Officers. We are grateful for our community partners who take the time to recognize and support the men and women who serve our city.
Looking ahead, November may bring a slightly slower pace as our community begins preparing for the upcoming holidays. But before we settle into the holiday season, Mingo Valley Officers will help kick things off by leading the escort for Santa's arrival at Woodland Hills Mall!
A special thank you to our Mingo Valley Officers for their continued dedication to community engagement throughout this incredibly busy month!

Riverside Division
This month, Riverside Officers visited Play & Learn Preschool and Chapman Child Learning Center to talk with children about everyday safety, including proper seatbelt use, avoiding strangers, and calling for help in an emergency. At the Tulsa Lighthouse Community Fun Fair, Officers spoke with families and gave them an up-close look at a patrol car.
Additionally, Officers met with Renaissance neighborhood residents for a crime prevention discussion and attended a neighborhood watch meeting at Lewiston Apartments. Both events provided opportunities to address community concerns, answer questions, and discuss ways to prevent crime.
Halloween festivities brought officers out into the community for several events. At BooHaHa on Brookside, officers led the parade and handed out candy to hundreds of trick-or-treaters. Officers later attended the Community Fall Festival at Free Will Baptist Church in West Tulsa, where they handed out candy and stickers to more than 100 local families.
Thank you to everyone who helped make October a fun and productive month for the Riverside Division!

Multi-day search, witnesses help locate suspect
On Tuesday, around 1:33 p.m., our Impact Unit responded to a call about a wanted robbery suspect at Hewgley Terrace near 7th and Lawton Ave.
Officers were looking for 27-year-old Darnell Jackson in connection with a robbery at a Stop & Save earlier this week.
Residents at Hewgley Terrace said Jackson was in one of the rooms. Before Officers could make contact with Jackson, a maintenance worker went to the room and told Jackson the cops were on the way.
Jackson pepper-sprayed the maintenance worker and ran off before Officers could get to him. The maintenance worker said it looked like Jackson was armed with a gun.
Yesterday, Impact Officers continued their search and were flagged down by someone who said they’d just seen Jackson walking nearby and provided a good description. Officers found Jackson walking in a downtown parking garage around the corner from Hewgley Terrace.
Jackson didn’t initially warm up to Officers’ commands, but finally surrendered when threatened with a taser. He was taken into custody and Officers found an imitation handgun on him.
Jackson was arrested and booked into the Tulsa County Jail for his Robbery warrant and Aggravated Assault & Battery.
This is an arrest, not a conviction.
