The Tulsa Police Department will begin a Citizens Police Academy starting in February.
The course will operate every Tuesday from February 17 to May 12, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Tulsa Police Training Division, located at 6066 E. 66th Street North.
The course is designed to introduce citizens to the various squads and divisions that encompass the Tulsa Police Department. Relevant topics include use of force, firearms training, pursuit driving, and criminal and narcotic investigations.
Veteran Tulsa Police Officers lead the course, discussing the challenges of policing a large, diverse, and urban center. It is an opportunity for citizens to interact with Officers in an educational environment to foster the understanding and mutual respect that is necessary to build a safer community for all.
The course is free for citizens who live, work, or attend school in Tulsa. Some of the classes feature hands-on learning, but the course is not physically taxing.
Due to the sensitive nature of certain curriculum components, a criminal background check is part of the application process. No law enforcement authority or credentials are conveyed to any citizen who completes the program. It is adult education designed not only to teach but to make the process fun and interesting.
Interested applicants can download an application here or email Mike Ward at mrward@cityoftulsa.org or Lt. William Toliver at wtoliver@cityoftulsa.org.
